I am Yolanta Belay, a fully qualified, accredited psychotherapist and counsellor, based in Notting Hill, West London. Over the last 20 years, I have worked in various educational institutions in London and counselling practices, as well as in my private office at W11psychotherapy. As a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, (BACP) I adhere to a strict code of ethics and guidelines and strive to attend refresher courses and seminars regularly in order to stay up-to-date.
My expertise covers a range of psychological difficulties, including:
Areas of Expertise
Self-Harming, Suicidal Ideations
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)
Experienced in working with borderline clients, I use dialectical behaviour therapy and mindfulness techniques to help manage high emotional vulnerability plus to develop skills needed to regulate emotions.
My theoretical orientation is psychodynamic; using the relationship between myself and the client, looking at the dynamics between us and exploring whether they are informed by early attachments and associations. I pay attention to the client's discourse as it often provides clues of the underlined issues. I find metaphors and dreams particularly helpful in accessing psychological material that may be blocked by trauma or defence mechanisms.
In summary, I see my job as assisting clients on their journey of developing a better understanding of their limitations as well as finding their strengths, altering their unhelpful ways of relating to themselves as well as to others.
While tailoring my approach and techniques to the client's individual needs and circumstances, I always follow the principles of confidentiality, empathy and congruence. What’s more, I strive to keep up to date with all the latest research and general information in the counselling world and regularly attend personal supervision as a requirement of my governing body.
